The area of low pressure now to the north of Luzon has entered within 800 kilometres of Hong Kong, and will develop into a tropical cyclone gradually in the next couple of days. According to the present forecast, the area of low pressure will linger over the vicinity of the northeastern part of the South China Sea and intensify. Depending on its development and impact to Hong Kong, the Observatory will assess the need to issue the Tropical Cyclone Warning Signal later tomorrow (4 July) to Saturday (5 July). There are uncertainties in its subsequent movement. It is more likely to turn northwards in the general direction of the vicinity of Taiwan to the coast of eastern Guangdong. Locally, there will be swells in the next couple of days. Members of the public should stay away from the shoreline and not engage in water sports, and take note of the latest weather information from the Observatory.
Please be reminded that:
The Very Hot Weather Warning is now in force. The public should beware of heat stroke and drink more water.
